Nippon Steel Will hold off on increasing capacity in US venture with Arcelor

- To postpone a planned production capacity increase at its plant in the U.S. state of Indiana due to falling demand for steel sheet for use by automakers in North America.
- The two companies aim to go ahead with the plan when car production bounces back in the region because ''the North American market for steel sheet for car-use promises to grow over a medium or long term,'' the Japanese firm said in a statement.
- Note: An initial plan called for doubling the output capacity for galvanized sheet from 2010 at I/N Kote L.P., the 50-50 joint venture between Nippon Steel and ArcelorMittal headquartered in Indiana.
